just following on from what i wrote below, im sure he made a mistake in the other nights show.
he said that he didnt know the names of that big group of people sitting on stage. they put their names into a bowl but he called out "dave in the top row" - how did he know where dave was sitting?

Penners... Go see him live and he'll really fuck your head up. I totally stand by that. I've been studying magic for over 35 years and I have no idea how Luke Jermay does most of his stuff.
Also watch out for a Spanish card magician called Dani DaOrtiz... Another one that totally and utterly destroyed a room full of VERY knowledgeable card guys a few years ago.

As for the hypnotism side... Derren uses it VERY sparingly, in fact hardly at all these days. It's not a sure fire method. Which simply isn't good enough for the kind of show he does.
If you've ever been to a hypno show, you'll know what I mean... Volunteers are chosen because of how suggestible they are during the warm up. Some people fall under immediately, others are impossible to hypnotise. I have to be honest and say I don't now any hypnotist's that actually have, or know much about the conjuring/mentalist arts. I know Derren dabbled with hypnotism when he was a magician in Bristol, but it was pretty basic stuff.
The name guessing, predictions and mind reading can't be done with hypnotism anyway.

Agree with Blunders - can't stand the bloke. It's the showmanship that gets me. I caught the end of last night's spectacle as the wife was watching it. Must confess I'm totally mystified by how he does some of it - some is just trickery or an amazing memory or a very clever mind, but how the f**k did he get that woman's phone number at the end?

I'm friends with Derren and also one of his co creators, Andy Nyman.
I can assure you that he never uses stooges at any time. Obviously I'm not allowed to divulge his methods, however I will say, he uses many of the 'old' principles of mentalism which he gives a new modern twist to. Most of his stuff was created by Nyman, who I believe is a genius.
Watch out for another guy called Luke Jermay... He is the real deal, I kid you not! Essex/Basildon boy who has been doing the rounds over in Vegas.

My missus was at a corporate gig that he did, she got pulled up on stage, he told her to think of someone she went to primary school with, she did and it was a pretty unusual name, and he nailed it.
Nailed her I mean, got the name completely wrong.
BANTS aside, he got the name spot on, and there was no way she was a stooge or was hypnotised.

I know someone that was on stage for one of his 'tricks' in a previous show. they are basically stooges, my friend was pre-selected and hypnotised before the show, that's all it is. none of this NLP bollocks, just plain old hypnotism and a bit of showmanship.
